Terry "Motek" Barrett

After serving more than twenty years in the United States Navy as an F/A-18 carrier aviator and test pilot, Terry “Motek” Barrett joined the Check 6 team in July 2009 as the Director of Corporate Operations.

Motek served as the Director of F/A-18 and EA-18G Flight Test at the Naval Strike Test Squadron VX-23, the Navy’s largest test directorate. In this capacity, Motek led an integrated test team comprised of over 325 government and industry personnel, as well as 18 military and civilian Test Pilots. He directly managed the modification and configuration of 25 unique F/A-18 and 5 proto-type EA-18G aircraft, supporting 120 active F/A-18 test plans with an annual budget of $150 million. Additionally, Motek spearheaded the development of the $2 billion dollar, 4 year, EA-18G Growler program by not only leading the team, but becoming the first Navy test pilot to spin and tail slide the Growler during out-of-control flight test.

While serving at the Navy’s premier weapon test facility in the Mojave Desert, Motek was selected “Test Pilot of the Year” for leading the test team responsible for developing, testing, and shooting down an F-4 Phantom jet with the Navy’s first pilot-helmet guided air-to-air missile. As a member of the Society of Experimental Test Pilots, Motek delivered technical presentations at four different international symposiums highlighting the use of lessons learned in reducing the cost of current and future test programs.

While working with the Joint Strike Fighter team in 2002, Motek’s leadership skills enabled him to act as the liaison to numerous stakeholders at all levels of DoD, Congress, Cabinet level personnel and over 650 personnel across the United States, United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Canada, Turkey and Australia.

Raised in Florida, Motek graduated from the University of Florida in 1987 with a BS in Computer Engineering. He also earned a MS in Aviation Systems/Human Factors Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Motek trained at TOPGUN and later graduated from the USN Test Pilot School in 1998. He amassed over 3100 flight hours in over 45 different fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. He has survived 535 carrier landings on ten different carriers, and flown combat sorties in support of SOUTHERN WATCH over Iraq and DELIBERATE FORCE in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Motek continues to fly today as an instructor in the Marchetti combat trainer, flying civilians in mock dog fighting sorties.
